Our Story
In 1997, East Oakland faced racial tensions that erupted into violence, prompting local youth to seek help. This led to the establishment of Youth UpRising in 2005, a comprehensive health and human services center dedicated to transforming the community by developing youth leadership and addressing systemic issues.
Impact
Since its inception, Youth UpRising has served over 13,000 unduplicated youth, achieving remarkable outcomes in career and education, health and wellness, and crime reduction. Notably, 97% of eligible summer employment participants re-enroll in high school, and delinquency rates among clients have decreased by over 80% after program enrollment.
