Our Story

In 1981, Judge John W. Greene recognized the urgent need for support services for troubled and at-risk youth in the Northshore area. With the help of the Covington Junior Service League and local stakeholders, the Youth Service Bureau opened its doors, launching the innovative Crossroads program. This initiative provided a pathway for juvenile lawbreakers to make restitution through community service, marking a significant milestone in St. Tammany Parish.

Since earning its 501(c)(3) status in 1982, the Youth Service Bureau has expanded its reach, becoming an umbrella agency that includes vital programs such as Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), Families In Need of Services (FINS), Options, and the Truancy and Assessment Service Center (TASC). Today, YSB is a cornerstone of social services in St. Tammany and Washington Parishes, dedicated to fostering strong youth and families.

Impact

The Youth Service Bureau (YSB) Endowment is a crucial investment in the future of our communities. Donations to the Endowment remain intact, generating returns that support essential YSB programs and services for generations. This ensures the long-term sustainability of YSB as a beacon of hope, empowering at-risk youth and families to reach their full potential.
