Our Story

Founded in 2010 by Imani Muhammad, Youth Organized and United to Help (Y.O.U.TH) emerged from the tragic loss of 14-year-old Davonte Lightfoot. His death in 2007 galvanized Imani, a dedicated teacher, to lead her students and community in establishing the first Youth Summit in Portland. This pivotal event marked the beginning of a 13-year journey of community engagement and empowerment.

Y.O.U.TH is committed to dismantling the school to prison pipeline, advocating for a future where youth can thrive free from violence and systemic barriers. Through cultural celebration and community support, Y.O.U.TH inspires young people to envision and pursue their dreams.

Our Impact

Y.O.U.TH is actively disrupting the school to prison pipeline through our #BooksNotBarsOR programming. By providing tutoring, advocacy, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion education, we raise awareness about the issues that perpetuate this cycle and work towards meaningful change.
