Our Story

At the heart of the Young Men's Christian Association of the Capital District lies a commitment to community and personal growth. Founded during the Industrial Revolution in England, the YMCA quickly spread to the United States, establishing its first chapter in Boston in 1851. The Capital District chapter opened in 1857, and for over 166 years, it has remained dedicated to serving the community through camp scholarships, healthy living initiatives, and charitable programs. The YMCA embodies the spirit of inclusivity and empowerment, striving to be the change we wish to see in our neighborhoods.
