Our Story
Founded in April 2005 by dedicated piano instructor Wanda Cook, the Young Artists Conservatory of Music (YACM) has become a beacon of hope and creativity in the North Bay Region. With a rich legacy of three generations of music educators, YACM was born from the belief that quality music education can transform the lives of children. Starting with a private studio of over 70 students, YACM has grown into the largest and most respected pre-college music education organization in the area.
Over the years, YACM has expanded its reach through four divisions, impacting a diverse demographic of young people. In 2010, YACM adopted Solano Youth Theatre© and founded Music Matters in the Public Schools, bringing music education to schools throughout Vallejo and Fairfield Unified School Districts. The introduction of the Music Therapy Division in 2013, supervised by board-certified Music Therapist Brianna McCulloch, further exemplifies YACM's commitment to holistic education.
In 2014, the Solano Youth Chamber Orchestra© emerged as the only regional youth orchestra performing professional works, showcasing the incredible talent of young musicians. The annual Black-Tie Gala Concert highlights the skills of the region's most talented youth, while the Solano Music Conservatory© provides a nurturing environment for students to develop their musical abilities through private lessons, classes, and ensembles.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, YACM adapted its programs to ensure continued access to music education. The Little Arts program for ages 4-5, CORE-Arts for children 6 and older, and Pro-Arts for families seeking advanced opportunities reflect YACM's dedication to fostering creativity and resilience in young people.
Today, YACM remains steadfast in its mission to incorporate the 5 Core Domains of Human Development into every program, ensuring that each child benefits from the transformative power of music education.
