The X Academy was founded in 2014 by the Sylvester family, inspired by their son's experience at Epsilon Camp. Recognizing the absence of math circles in Santa Cruz County, they rallied parents to create a nurturing environment for young mathematicians. The first math circle launched with 45 students at Louden Nelson Center, led by Dr. Paul Zeitz, a pioneer in the math circle movement.
Since its inception, the X Academy has organized 93 weekly math sessions for 441 students from 62 different schools. With a commitment to inclusivity, 38% of participants are female, and one-third come from underrepresented communities. The robotics program has also thrived, with teams achieving high placements in national and international competitions.
