About the Wylie Walleye Foundation
Born from a local resident's vision in 1997, the Wylie Walleye Foundation has transformed a simple paper mache fish into a beloved community tradition. Each New Year’s Eve, thousands gather in Downtown Port Clinton to witness the spectacular drop of Wylie Jr., a 20-foot, 600-pound LED-lit walleye, followed by a dazzling fireworks display. This event not only marks the beginning of a new year but also celebrates the spirit of Port Clinton, known as the 'Walleye Capital of the World.'
Impact on the Community
The foundation promotes year-round recreational opportunities on Lake Erie, benefiting residents and visitors alike in Port Clinton, Catawba, and the Marblehead Peninsula.
