Our Story

Founded in 2015, Write to Be began as a pen pal program aimed at mentoring Haitian girls through empowering letters. This simple yet powerful cultural exchange revealed the potential of mentorship and positive relationships to inspire the next generation of Haitian girls to take control of their own stories. Nearly a decade later, Write to Be has evolved into a comprehensive, community-based support initiative, operating two flagship programs in Les Cayes, Haiti: Fi Ki Fò, an after-school program for girls led by local Haitian women, and Fanm Ki Fò, an emergency cash grant for women in the greater community.

Our Impact

Write to Be currently supports the Fi Ki Fὸ program ('Strong Girl' in Haitian Creole) in collaboration with Consolation Center Haiti (CCH) in Les Cayes. In 2020, over 20 11-year-old girls participated in activities focused on self-identity, healthy relationships, and professional life, all part of a curriculum developed by U.S. and Haitian educators. These activities are complemented by vocational skill training classes and mentorship opportunities, nurturing the agency, confidence, and pride of girls and women in the community.
