Our Story

The World Council of Peoples for the United Nations (WCPUN) was established by European scholars and philanthropists in the aftermath of World War II. This private foundation aims to promote the objectives of the United Nations while aiding the restoration of educational and cultural institutions in Europe. With a commitment to minimal bureaucracy and high due diligence, WCPUN has facilitated numerous projects that align with UN efforts. In 1967, at the suggestion of U Thant, the third Secretary-General of the United Nations, WCPUN was officially registered as a non-governmental organization (NGO) with the UN’s Department of Public Information.

Impact

WCPUN has made significant strides in various initiatives, including fundraising for the United Nations Office for Drugs and Crime and advancing food production and water sanitation technologies in rural Latin America. The organization has also focused on combating child malnutrition through nutritional supplements and fostering inter-faith dialogue through artistic and academic channels.
