About Joe’s Movement Emporium

Founded in 1995 by Brooke Kidd and Ajax Joe Drayton, Joe’s Movement Emporium began as a dance studio in Mt. Rainier, MD, addressing the lack of arts access for the community's diverse residents. Over the years, it has transformed into the largest independent performing arts center in Prince George’s County, MD. The 20,000 sq. ft. facility, opened in 2007 after a successful $3.2 million capital campaign, serves as a welcoming space for all, where individuals can explore and celebrate global arts traditions.

Impact of Joe’s Movement Emporium

Annually, Joe’s serves 70,000 individuals, providing them with exceptional educational and artistic experiences. The programming has evolved to meet community needs, including affordable childcare and life skills training for at-risk youth, ensuring that everyone has access to the arts.
