Our Story

Workshop Houston began in 2003 as a community bike repair shop, evolving into a vibrant hub for hands-on, project-based arts programs. Responding to the needs of the youth in Third Ward, the organization has transformed into Workshop Houston 2.0, offering culturally-specific arts education through our Beat Shop, Style Shop, Dance Shop, and Media Shop. These programs are led by near-peer instructors who are current and former participants, fostering a supportive environment that values community knowledge.
