Our Story
Founded in June 1937, the Worcester County Light Opera Club (WCLOC) began with a small group of passionate individuals eager to bring the operettas of Gilbert & Sullivan to life. By the end of that year, the club had grown to 100 members, marking the start of a vibrant community theater tradition in Worcester. The inaugural production, a joint presentation of Trial by Jury and HMS Pinafore, captivated audiences at Tuckerman Hall in February 1938.
Over the decades, WCLOC has evolved, adapting to the changing landscape of theater. In 1956, the club embraced the Broadway musical genre with its successful production of No No Nanette. This shift allowed WCLOC to nurture local talent through workshops and scholarships, fostering a love for the performing arts among both adults and children.
Today, WCLOC continues to thrive as Worcester’s oldest active community theater, producing a diverse array of theatrical works, from classic plays to contemporary musicals. The club also proudly showcases new works by local playwrights, providing a platform for emerging artists in the region.
