Worcester Animal Rescue League: A Legacy of Compassion

Founded in 1912 by a group of dedicated women, the Worcester Animal Rescue League has been a beacon of hope for animals in need for over a century. Initially focused on rescuing overworked horses, stray cats, and dogs, WARL has expanded its mission to include a wide variety of animals. The organization’s first automobile truck allowed staff to travel over 5,000 miles in just one year, rescuing countless animals in distress.

In 1930, with the support of the compassionate Worcester community, WARL moved to its current location at 139 Holden Street, where it continues to provide essential services. The shelter has grown and adapted over the years, with significant renovations to accommodate the increasing number of animals needing care. Today, WARL proudly celebrates 110 years of unwavering commitment to animal welfare.

Impact on Lives

Worcester Animal Rescue League significantly impacts the lives of thousands of animals and their future families each year through adoption, medical care, and community support.
