Our Story

Hope & Safety Alliance, formerly known as Womenspace, was founded in the early 1970s as a grassroots response to violence against women. In 1975, a group of six women established a crisis line, which led to the opening of the first shelter for battered women in Lane County in 1977. Over the years, the organization has expanded its services to include youth support, transitional living, and legal assistance, while advocating for public policies to combat domestic violence. In 2021, the organization rebranded to reflect its commitment to inclusivity and diversity.

Our Impact

For over 45 years, Hope & Safety Alliance has provided hope and safety to thousands of survivors and children in Lane County each year.
