Empowering Survivors Since 1975

The Women’s Resource Center for the Grand Traverse Area (WRC) has been a beacon of hope for survivors of domestic and sexual violence since its inception in 1975. What began as a grassroots initiative with an all-volunteer staff has evolved into a comprehensive support system for those in need. Over the years, the WRC has expanded its services, transitioning to a decentralized model that ensures accessibility across various communities.

Making a Lasting Impact

In the early 1990s, the WRC significantly increased its capacity by moving its emergency shelter program to a larger facility, expanding from 12 to 22 beds. The introduction of a transitional housing program further solidified its commitment to providing safe and supportive environments for survivors. Notably, the WRC established Michigan's third Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program, the first in a rural area, in partnership with Munson Medical Center and local law enforcement.

Why Your Support Matters

With over 40 years of dedicated service, the WRC is recognized as the primary provider for survivors of domestic and sexual violence in the Grand Traverse area. In 2020 alone, the center provided 3,300 nights of safe housing for those in crisis. One in four women and one in nine men experience severe intimate partner physical violence. Your donation can help change lives and provide essential resources for those in need.
