Our Story

The Cambridge Women’s Center was born from a powerful movement on International Women’s Day in March 1971, when a group of women occupied a Harvard-owned building to demand dedicated spaces for women. This pivotal event led to the establishment of the Women’s Center, which has continually evolved to meet the diverse needs of its community, providing essential support and resources for women and gender nonconforming individuals.
