Our Story

KPOV began as a bold idea in May 2001 when the FCC announced it would accept applications for a new low power FM radio station in Bend. Motivated residents collaborated with seven local nonprofit organizations to secure a construction permit. In February 2004, the FCC granted the permit to the Women’s Civic Improvement League, a long-standing organization. KPOV officially began broadcasting on June 26, 2005, with over 70 newly trained DJs producing their own shows.

Impact

KPOV serves nearly 17,000 weekly listeners, providing a platform for diverse voices and local journalism. Recognized as the Best Radio Station in Central Oregon for two consecutive years, KPOV highlights the importance of community engagement in today’s media landscape.
