Our Story
Wisconsin Independent Learning College Inc. (WILC) was founded in 2012 by a dedicated mother who recognized the lack of educational opportunities for her autistic son after high school. Unlike their neurotypical peers, individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) had limited options to continue their education and personal growth. WILC began with just three students, providing a unique environment where they could learn through various means of communication, including spelling. This innovative approach allowed students to express their thoughts on current events and their aspirations for the future, fostering self-determination and independence.
In 2016, WILC expanded to a larger facility in Waukesha, Wisconsin, enabling more students to benefit from tailored educational experiences. The college has since developed partnerships with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR), offering daily living skills training, prevocational training, and vocational exploration based on individual goals. WILC remains committed to equipping students with the skills necessary to lead purposeful lives.
