Our Story
The Wiregrass Humane Society has been a beacon of hope for animals in need since its resurgence in the early 1990s. Initially, animals were housed in a mobile home, but thanks to the generosity of the Wiregrass community and a successful capital contributions drive, a new shelter was completed in 2000. This facility, built on a fifty-year lease from the City of Dothan, allows WHS to provide a safe haven for countless animals. With a dedicated team of volunteers, the organization operates without federal, state, or local funding, relying solely on the kindness of private donors.
