The Legacy of Winterhurst Ice Rink
Since its inception in 1931, the Winterhurst Ice Rink has been a cornerstone of the Lakewood community, providing a space for generations to enjoy the beauty of ice skating. Originally built by the City Ice and Fuel Company, this facility has evolved over the decades, becoming a cherished venue for both recreational and competitive skaters.
In 1975, the current structure was dedicated, featuring dual rinks and state-of-the-art amenities that cater to a variety of ice sports. The rink has attracted Olympic hopefuls, including training under the guidance of former Olympian Carol Heiss Jenkins, showcasing the high caliber of coaching available at Winterhurst.
The Winterhurst Figure Skating Club (WFSC), established in 1976, has been pivotal in nurturing talent, hosting numerous exhibitions, competitions, and ice shows. With a commitment to providing a safe and enjoyable environment, WFSC supports skaters from basic skills to national and world competitors.
