Our Story
In February 2016, the Winder Housing Authority transformed the former Winder-Barrow Middle School into the Wimberly Center for Community Development. This hub for community growth is located in the heart of the Glenwood neighborhood, a USDA-designated food desert. Wimberly’s Roots emerged from the Local Foods, Local Places initiative, which recognized Winder as one of only 27 communities nationwide to receive support for integrating local food systems into development strategies. This initiative has allowed Wimberly’s Roots to become a cornerstone for promoting food security, sustainability, and nutrition education.
