Our Story

Founded in 2018 by Chaplain Dean Aithwaite, Willamette Valley First Responder Chaplains (WVFRC) emerged from a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by First Responders. With a background in military and fire service, Chaplain Aithwaite recognized the urgent need for culturally competent support tailored to these heroes. Since its inception, WVFRC has dedicated itself to training and equipping a professional team of Chaplains who provide confidential, holistic care for the mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual needs of First Responders and their families.

Impact

Every day, our nation loses an average of one First Responder to suicide, a tragedy that intensifies after retirement, with rates soaring to ten times higher. In 2019 alone, 89 Law Enforcement Officers were lost in the line of duty, while 228 succumbed to suicide. Similarly, 49 Firefighters were lost in the line of duty, with 134 taking their own lives. This alarming trend underscores the critical need for support, which is why WVFRC is committed to helping those who help others.
