Our Story

The Wiley H. Bates Legacy Center honors the significant contributions of the founder, faculty, staff, and students of Wiley H. Bates High School, the only high school for African American students in Annapolis and Anne Arundel County from 1933 to 1966. This center serves as a cultural and educational touchstone, collecting and preserving the rich history of education and service in a historically segregated community.
