Our Story
Founded in 1989, Wilderness Watch is the leading national organization focused on the preservation and stewardship of lands and rivers within the National Wilderness Preservation System. With over 3,000 members and 150,000 supporters, Wilderness Watch operates from Missoula, Montana, and has offices across Idaho, Minnesota, Vermont, and Washington, D.C. The organization emerged from a growing concern that while new wilderness areas are being designated, the existing ones are often neglected. Through independent public oversight, education, and monitoring of federal management activities, Wilderness Watch ensures that these remarkable wild places are protected.
