Why Me

Our Story

Why Me was founded by Sherry Shepherd, a courageous 13-year-old who battled cancer for four years. Despite her own struggles, Sherry dedicated her time to uplifting fellow pediatric oncology patients at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. Her compassion and determination inspired the creation of Why Me, which stands for Worcester Help for Youth, Memories Everlasting. With the support of her father, Terry Shepherd, the organization was established to provide lasting support for families facing the challenges of childhood cancer.
