Our Story

The roots of White Buffalo Land Trust trace back to 2001, when two White Buffalo calves were born in Colorado. Initially intended for sale to a casino, a group of Oglala Lakota relatives urged Lyndsey McMorrow and her mother, Bobbie, to protect these majestic animals on their land in Santa Ynez, California. This commitment sparked a journey of healing relations with the earth and communities.

In 2016, Lyndsey's participation in the Lead with Land program at Paicines Ranch ignited her passion for regenerative agriculture. Following her passing in February 2018, her husband, Steve Finkel, along with family support, established the White Buffalo Land Trust to continue her legacy. Today, the Trust stands as a leader in regenerative agriculture, fostering a global movement for ecological restoration.

Impact

Through dedicated training and consulting programs, White Buffalo Land Trust has influenced 156,625 acres, engaged 1,824 community members, and trained 312 farmers and ranchers. The Trust is also a proud member of the Savory Network, committed to planetary regeneration.
