Transforming Lives Through Equine Therapy

In Miami-Dade County, nearly 600,000 individuals live with some form of disability. Recognizing the urgent need for therapeutic programs, philanthropist Nancy Hector established Whispering Manes Therapeutic Riding Center in 2011. This center was created to provide a safe and accessible environment where children and adults with disabilities can engage with horses, fostering healing and personal growth.

Whispering Manes operates from a custom-designed, ADA compliant facility that includes a barn and a covered riding arena, donated by Mrs. Hector in 2015. Since its inception, the center has served over 150 participants annually, including veterans, students from local special education programs, and individuals from the Down Syndrome Association of Miami and Miami Cerebral Palsy Residences.

With a dedicated team of PATH International certified instructors and over 100 volunteers, Whispering Manes offers equine assisted activities that promote physical, emotional, and social development. The center proudly became a PATH International Premier Accredited Center in 2017, a testament to its commitment to safety and excellence in therapeutic riding.

Impacting the Community

Whispering Manes serves up to 80 riders each week, ranging in age from 5 to over 70 years old. The center's programs not only enhance the lives of participants but also strengthen community ties through volunteerism and collaboration with local organizations.
