About Westwood Works

Founded in 2009, Westwood Works emerged from a community desire to revitalize the Westwood neighborhood through art and engagement. The journey began with the creation of an Artworks mural, dedicated during the inaugural Westwood Art Show. This event sparked a series of community meetings where residents shared their visions for a brighter future. With 75% of the business district vacant, these gatherings became a catalyst for change, often humorously dubbed a "Drinking Club with a Civic Problem."

Community Engagement and Events

In the fall of 2009, the first Treasure Qwest race/scavenger hunt attracted 25 teams, igniting excitement in Westwood and Cheviot. This was followed by the introduction of pop-up beer gardens in 2011, which brought neighbors together for music, games, and camaraderie. Westwood Works has consistently championed inclusivity, standing against racism in 2013 and hosting a free holiday celebration, Deck The Hall, in 2014, featuring caroling, activities for children, and a festive tree lighting.

Summer 2016 saw the launch of Pop Goes Westwood, a series of weekend events showcasing local talent and interactive art, which evolved into Westwood Second Saturdays in 2017, drawing over 20,000 attendees from more than 20 zip codes. These initiatives highlight the potential of the proposed pedestrian plaza in the Westwood Town Hall redesign.

Impact of Westwood Works

Westwood Works is dedicated to three core pillars: connecting people, connecting place, and connecting purpose. The organization has awarded $20,000 in mini-grants, hosted 50 events, distributed 400 anti-racism books, and partnered with 30 community organizations, fostering a spirit of collaboration and growth.
