Our Story
The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy was founded in 1932 during the Great Depression by a dedicated group of citizens. Their mission was to alleviate unemployment through public works programs that positively impacted the region's natural resources. Over the decades, the Conservancy has successfully protected over 285,000 acres of natural lands, established 11 state parks, and restored more than 3,000 miles of rivers and streams.
