About Western Avenue Community Center

Founded in 1926 by Reverend Frank Breen and dedicated community leaders, the Western Avenue Community Center (WACC) has been a cornerstone of the Bloomington/Normal area for nearly a century. Originally established as an inter-denominational church and community hub, WACC has evolved into a vital social service organization, providing a safe space for social, educational, and recreational activities for all ages.

Despite challenges, including a devastating fire in 1982, the community rallied to rebuild, ensuring that WACC continues to serve as a beacon of hope and support. In 2022, the property was deeded directly to WACC, solidifying its role in the community. Today, WACC serves over 2,000 families annually, offering programs for youth, seniors, and essential services like food assistance and translation.
