About West Valley Genealogical Society
Founded in 1972, the West Valley Genealogical Society (WVGS) has grown from a small group of thirty-six charter members into a vibrant community dedicated to genealogy research. Initially known as the Sun City Genealogical Society, the organization has evolved significantly over the decades. In 1984, the Society established a research area at the R. H. Johnson Library, and by 2001, it secured a permanent home at 12222 N 111th Avenue in Youngtown, Arizona. This facility houses the largest collection of genealogical resources in the state, making it a vital hub for researchers and history enthusiasts.
Impact of the Society
The WVGS Library is a non-circulating, constantly growing research library, maintained entirely by dedicated volunteers. It offers an extensive collection of books, periodicals, CDs, microfilm, microfiche, and maps, covering genealogical resources from around the globe. The Society's commitment to preserving history and providing access to reliable research sources has made a significant impact on the community.
