Our Story

The West Philadelphia Cooperative School was founded by a dedicated group of parents seeking a unique educational experience for their children. Rooted in play-based learning, outdoor exploration, and cooperation, WPCS has thrived for over 15 years as a parent-run cooperative school. Parents collaborate with teachers to provide individualized attention to children from diverse backgrounds, ensuring that every family has access to quality, affordable childcare.

Impact

WPCS is committed to fostering a community that reflects the rich diversity of Philadelphia. The school creates an inclusive and welcoming environment that embraces differences in race, ethnicity, gender, family structure, religion, sexual orientation, socio-economic class, and physical ability. By encouraging students and families to share their authentic selves, WPCS promotes social development and cultivates a compassionate community.

Why Donate?

Your generous donations can help fill the new school with creativity and joy! Contributions also support our Book Wish List, which aims to update the school’s library with diverse literature sourced from Harriett’s Book Shop, a Black-woman-owned bookstore. Every gift is deeply appreciated!
