Our Story

The West Buncombe Volunteer Fire Department was established in March 1959 by a dedicated group of Lions Club members who recognized the need for organized fire protection in the Erwin Hills Community. From humble beginnings as an all-volunteer service, the department has grown to staff two stations with 30 full-time and 20 part-time firefighters, alongside 35 committed volunteers. Plans for a third station in the Dix Creek Area are underway, ensuring comprehensive coverage across our 25.8 square miles.

Our Impact

By providing exceptional public safety services, the West Buncombe Fire Department safeguards the lives, property, and environment of Buncombe County residents.
