WAWA

Our Story

What began as a community struggle for environmental justice has evolved into the West Atlanta Watershed Alliance (WAWA), an organization dedicated to fostering environmental stewardship. Since 1995, WAWA has partnered with the West Atlanta community to protect greenspace and improve water quality. This grassroots effort emerged from the need to halt discriminatory wastewater treatment practices, leading to the preservation of over 400 acres of green space in Southwest Atlanta.

Impact

WAWA has successfully raised over $2 million for environmental initiatives and operates the Outdoor Activity Center (OAC), a 26-acre urban forest preserve and nature center. Additionally, WAWA serves as the steward of Cascade Springs Nature Preserve and Lionel Hampton Beecher Park, ensuring these vital green spaces remain accessible to the community.
