Our Story
Founded in 1957 by Reverend Richard Anderson, Wayside Christian Mission began as a community effort to create a rescue mission in Louisville, Kentucky. Over the years, it has evolved to meet the changing needs of the community, becoming the first racially integrated rescue mission south of the Mason-Dixon Line. Today, it offers a range of services including emergency shelters and supportive housing programs.
Impact
Wayside Christian Mission serves between 500 to 600 individuals each night, providing approximately 2,000 meals daily to those experiencing homelessness and hunger. The mission operates multiple programs, including emergency shelters for men, women, families, and veterans, as well as permanent supportive housing for individuals with disabilities.
