Our Story
Founded in 1930 by community leader Mary Butler, the Waukesha Service Club emerged during the Great Depression with a mission to alleviate poverty in the Waukesha community. Seventeen young women came together to support the Municipal Hospital, providing essential aid to the sick and needy. This commitment continues today through financial contributions to the ProHealth Care Foundation, funded by the Waukesha Service Club Hospital Gift Shop.
Recognizing the growing need for clothing assistance, the club established a clothing committee that evolved into the Waukesha Service Club Thrift Shop. This shop has relocated several times to accommodate the increasing demand for gently used clothing, ensuring that those in need receive vital support.
Over the years, the Waukesha Service Club has played a pivotal role in founding significant community initiatives, including the Visiting Nurses Association and the Christmas Clearing Council. Fundraising events such as bake sales and luncheons have paved the way for the current 'Inspired to Serve' Luncheon, which provides monetary and clothing assistance to Waukesha County residents referred by social service agencies.
