Our Story

Founded during the Civil Rights movement by Ted Watkins, the Watts Labor Community Action Committee (WLCAC) has been a beacon of hope in Watts, California. Ted's journey from Meridian, Mississippi, to escape racial violence led him to establish WLCAC, which has since become a vital support system for families experiencing poverty. After the 1992 Los Angeles Rebellion, WLCAC rebuilt its headquarters into a seven-acre healing arts oasis, empowering individuals with the tools to create change.

Our Impact

For over 58 years, WLCAC has been dedicated to improving the quality of life for residents of Watts and surrounding areas. Through grassroots organizing and funded programs, WLCAC provides essential services in family stability, employment, housing, and cultural enrichment, helping individuals and families thrive.
