Watson Children's Shelter: A Legacy of Care

Since 1977, Watson Children's Shelter has been a beacon of hope for children who have faced abandonment and abuse. Founded by retired schoolteacher Janice Watson, the shelter began as a humble home for children in crisis. Over the years, it has evolved into a comprehensive care facility, offering 24 beds across two shelters, each designed to provide a nurturing environment for children aged newborn to 14 years.

At Watson, children receive wrap-around, trauma-informed care 24/7, ensuring their physical and emotional needs are met. However, the mission extends beyond immediate shelter. In 2018, Watson launched the Healthy Foundations program, a voluntary home-visitation initiative aimed at families at risk. This program is rooted in one of the most rigorously researched child abuse prevention models in the nation, conducting an average of 500 home visits annually to empower families and break the cycle of abuse.

Impacting Lives Every Day

Each year, over 100 children find refuge at Watson Children's Shelter, which remains open 24/7, 365 days a year, providing emergency shelter and support.
