Our Story
The Water Protector Legal Collective was born from a prayer at Standing Rock, dedicated to safeguarding water for Indigenous Peoples and future generations. Serving as the on-the-ground legal team for the Indigenous-led resistance against the Dakota Access Pipeline, WPLC provides essential legal support for Water Protectors involved in over 800 criminal defense cases in North Dakota.
Impact
WPLC has successfully resolved 78 Line 3 cases, reached over 85,000 individuals, and authored 6 public comments aimed at protecting water and sacred sites. Their commitment to legal advocacy is evident through the filing of 3 federal civil rights cases and the production of international human rights reports.
