Our Story
The Washington Area Humane Society, established in 1906 through the vision of Clara C.B. Lockhart, has dedicated over a century to rescuing and rehoming animals in Washington County, Pennsylvania. Originally founded to care for over 1,000 animals on a farm, WAHS has transformed into a no-kill shelter, opening a new facility in 2019 to enhance its mission. Each year, WAHS provides humane care and placement for approximately 1,000 animals, ensuring they find loving homes.
