Our Story

Founded in 1988 by Rev. Carl Walker and Grant West, Walker West Music Academy began with a single rented piano in a duplex. This vision has blossomed into the oldest community music school in the nation established by African American musicians. Walker West is dedicated to offering affordable, quality music instruction that celebrates the African American cultural experience, impacting the lives of thousands of students.

Impact

Each week, Walker West serves 280 students and engages 5,700 program participants annually, providing vital music education to diverse individuals across the economic spectrum in the Twin Cities.
