About Wake Forest Civic Ballet

The vision for the Wake Forest Civic Ballet began in the spring of 2005, when Patricia Ogden, owner of Destiny Dance Institute, sought to provide high-quality ballet instruction. With the guidance of long-time teacher and choreographer Ruth Leney-Midkiff, the ballet curriculum flourished into a comprehensive Pre-Professional program. Over five years, this program developed into five levels of technique, four levels of pointe, YAGP coaching, Pas de deux workshops, and specialized Boys’ technique.

Building a Community Through Dance

In 2010, the success of the Destiny Dance Institute led to the formation of the Destiny Dance Institute Ballet Company (DDIBC), which debuted its first production of the Nutcracker: Act II. Since then, the company has expanded its repertoire to include beloved classics such as Sleeping Beauty, Coppelia, The Firebird, and original works by renowned choreographers. The dedication of parent volunteers has been instrumental in the company’s growth, contributing their time and talents in various roles, from costume design to fundraising.

As the Wake Forest Civic Ballet, the organization has become a cornerstone of the local arts scene, collaborating with professional artists and educators to provide students with unparalleled training. The move to a new state-of-the-art studio in 2017 marked a significant milestone in the company’s journey, paving the way for a bright future filled with family-friendly productions that celebrate the art of dance.
