Our Story

The Wadsworth Library, established in 1842 by James Wadsworth, began as a collection for students at the Livingston County High School. It has since evolved into one of the first free public libraries in the United States, serving the residents of Livingston County. Transitioning to a public library district in 2007, it has undergone significant expansions, becoming a vital community resource in Geneseo, NY.
