Our Story
Volunteers of Vacaville, established in 1960, is dedicated to empowering incarcerated individuals through The Blind Project. This initiative teaches Braille transcription and Brailler repair, while also serving the sight-impaired community worldwide. Supported by local Lion’s Club members, teachers for the blind, and community volunteers, VOV is committed to making a difference.
Impact
The Blind Project has made significant strides, supplying over 250 local schools with repaired Braille writers and transcribing thousands of pages of textbooks for visually impaired students. In the past year, 9,308 pages of Nemeth Braille were completed, alongside the refurbishment of 557 Braille writers, showcasing the profound impact on both the visually impaired community and the personal development of inmate workers.
