Volunteers for Youth
EIN: 58-1457945 · Carrboro, NC
Our Story
Volunteers for Youth Inc. was established in 1981 in response to a critical need identified by professionals in the Orange County court system. They recognized that many young individuals appearing in court could greatly benefit from the guidance and support of caring adult mentors. From 1982 to 2009, the organization successfully launched hundreds of mentoring relationships through a state-funded initiative. Despite the discontinuation of state funding, Volunteers for Youth has continued to thrive, thanks to the support of local municipalities and individual donors.
Impacting Lives
In addition to mentoring, Volunteers for Youth developed the Juvenile Community Services and Restitution Program in 1992, allowing youth offenders to give back to the community through service hours. Since 2004, the organization has also coordinated the Orange County Teen Court, providing a unique alternative for first-time offenders to be tried by their peers.
