Our Story
Voice of the Experienced (VOTE) is a grassroots organization founded and run by formerly incarcerated individuals, their families, and allies. Established in 2004, VOTE evolved from the Angola Special Civics Project, which began in 1987. The organization is dedicated to restoring the full human and civil rights of those impacted by the criminal justice system, advocating for meaningful change without relying on mass incarceration.

VOTE has become a significant force for criminal justice reform in Louisiana, recognized as a catalyst for empowerment and change. With a dedicated staff of nearly 30 across three cities, VOTE has achieved numerous victories in advocating for voting rights and healthcare for formerly incarcerated individuals.
