About VOCEL

Founded in 2012 by educators Jesse Ilhardt and Kelly Powers, VOCEL, or Viewing Our Children as Emerging Leaders, is dedicated to democratizing early learning in Chicago and beyond. The organization launched its first program, the VOCEL Early Learning Center, in 2014, focusing on talk and play to foster significant developmental milestones for children.

Impact of VOCEL

With 94% of children in its early learning center meeting or exceeding developmental milestones after just 10 months, VOCEL has successfully bridged access gaps for families in under-resourced communities, enhancing early learning opportunities and outcomes.
