Our Story
Since 1931, Visalia Emergency Aid Council (VEA) has been a beacon of hope for low-income families in Tulare County. Founded by a group of visionary women during the Dust Bowl era, VEA began by providing essential resources like food, blankets, and firewood to families seeking a better life in California. As the community grew, so did the need for comprehensive support services. Today, VEA operates a Food Pantry and Family Assistance Center, dedicated to not only alleviating hunger but also promoting self-sufficiency through various programs.
Located in one of Visalia's most impoverished neighborhoods, VEA ensures that its services are accessible to those who need them most. Over the past 91 years, VEA has adapted to the changing face of hunger, expanding its focus to include homelessness prevention, job training, and health and human services. The mission remains clear: to create a community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
