Our Story

Virginia Voice connects individuals with blindness and other disabilities to news, information, arts, and culture using technology and the human voice. Serving over 11,000 individuals in Central Virginia and the Hampton Roads area, the organization broadcasts a 24/7 schedule of audio programs, featuring articles from current print publications. Additionally, Virginia Voice offers live and recorded Audio Description services, enabling individuals with visual disabilities to experience the visual aspects of theater, media, and art.

Impact

Virginia Voice’s radio reading and audio description services help break the cycle of isolation, anxiety, and depression for people who are blind or have low vision. With an 8% increase in listenership and doubled Audio Description offerings, the organization continues to expand its community partnerships.
