The Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad was established in 1952, born from the urgent need for a dedicated volunteer ambulance service in Virginia Beach. Over the decades, this squad has evolved, adapting to the growing demands for emergency medical care while remaining committed to serving the community through volunteer efforts.

Each year, the squad responds to over 19,000 emergency calls, providing free pre-hospital medical care that has saved the City of Virginia Beach more than $24 million. With volunteers dedicating over 83,000 hours annually, the squad is a vital resource for both residents and visitors.
